Free GarageBand Workshops in Your Neighborhood

GarageBand App Free GarageBand Workshops in Your NeighborhoodIf you own a mac you’re almost ready to record your own demo or full album for that matter.  What stands between you and your sure to be amazing work of art?  GarageBand.  During the month of June that will change.  Four incredible (and incredibly, FREE) workshops are coming to your neighborhood Guitar Center.

GarageBand, which comes in the iLife suite of software is an incredibly intuitive recording software.  And that’s coming from an audio engineer who’s spent years learning the ins and outs of professional software like ProTools.  Big recording software has a steeeeeep learning curve…and an equally steep price.  But Apple made a huge leap in making quality recording accessible to people who’ve never even used recording software when they created GarageBand.  It’s so good that even some major label bands have recorded entire albums on it.

June 11th through July 2nd Guitar Center will be hosting absolutely FREE workshops to take you from beginner to recording artist with four workshops including Virtual Instruments and Loops, (I arranged and 11 song album almost completely from loops for an indie label so this is important stuff), Effects, Mixing and Publishing and Signal Flow and Microphone Techniques.  Even if you’ve never used the software, if you have it you have to take advantage of this!  Learning on YouTube is great but it still pales in comparison to a live workshop where you can ask questions and get input from trained instructors.

If you don’t own a mac but are thinking about it I highly recommend getting to as many of these free workshops as possible. To replicate a recording project on a PC you’re looking at spending a whole lot of coin and a slow climb up the learning curve.  GarageBand is the best reason for any musician to own a Mac.

I’m still a ProTools girl.  After all, I’ve invested years in training and soooooo much money in software and hardware that it SHOULD be easier for me to do my recording there.  And it’s the industry standard for the level of recording I do so my clients kind of require it.  But if I were just recording demos and albums for myself, GarageBand would be all I would need.  Check out the FREE GarageBand Workshops Schedule and register online here.
